The Ladder/Green Lanes ‘Streets for People’ Consultation

We have an update from Mike Hakata at the Council regarding timelines for the Ladder consultation. In short, traffic modelling needs to be rigorous and has taken longer than expected, but is now underway, and residents should expect to hear from the Council this month about the forthcoming consultation.

P.S - If you’re interested in helping us campaign once the consultation is live, please do register your interest using this form!

Full statement below from Mike Hakata:

NRP (traffic consultancy) have now completed analysis of the data we have captured for the area; this includes

  • traffic data (gathered in November 2021 before the St Ann’s or Bruce Grove West Green LTN were launched)

  • parking and loading data

  • analysis on the road traffic collisions that have occurred in the area

NRP are now developing concept options based on the feedback received on the priorities for the area.  These will be based on the topographical surveys undertaken which will accurately reflect the constraints we have on available road space, and therefore what improvements can be accommodated to truly transform the area.  These options will be tested through traffic signal modelling to understand if they would work, and what the likely impacts and benefits these would bring. The modelling will consider the traffic conditions now, and will be updated once we gather traffic data in the new year, allowing a short settling in period following the LTNs coming into effect.

The development of the options has commenced and this, together with the initial modelling, will be completed early next year. We were hoping that it would have been completed sooner, but it is essential that the design work is done to the highest standards and the modelling accurately reflects the impacts. I certainly do not want to get NRP to deliver incomplete designs and modelling just so I can say we've done it to score some brownie points. In the meantime, we will be updating the Streets for People pages within our website to include information about this review and share the data captured to date.

Given that this review will take some time, it is likely that any improvements identified will be delivered in phases and as funding allows. The first phase we want to deliver is the school streets for North and South Haringey schools. We have met with the schools, and both are keen to create safe spaces for children to be able to walk, cycle and wheel to school. As such this element of the project is being brought forward and consultation on the school streets has begun.

Key dates:

December 2022 – the Council will write to all properties in the project area (this will include the Ladder Roads, Green Lanes, Wightman Rd, Turnpike Lane, and some properties to the east of Green Lanes) updating them on what they are working on, and when they will engage with residents next. The letter will also signpost them to the website and what information will be available there.

March/April 2023 – commence engagement with residents and businesses in the project area. Details for this will be in the engagement strategy to be discussed and agreed at the next Council meeting in December.

April 2023 – delivery of school streets subject to decision
